The Clay Modelling Set – Bowls is a creative kit for making two small decorative bowls from self-hardening clay. The finished forms work well as jewellery dishes, places for small treasures, shelf or chest-of-drawers decorations, or handmade gifts.
The set lets you explore a simple slab-building technique. After kneading the clay, divide it into two parts, roll them out into slabs, then gently lift and shape the edges to create a soft, wavy form. Small irregularities, an organic rim line and hand-smoothed surfaces give the bowls a natural, individual character.
The kit includes the materials needed to get started: white self-hardening clay, pink and black acrylic paint, a clay roller and a flat brush. Once the clay has dried, the bowls can be painted and decorated with simple patterns to create decorative dishes for jewellery, hair clips, beads, keys or other small items.
Self-hardening clay is a modelling material that hardens as it dries in the air, without the need for firing in a ceramic kiln. It can be rolled, shaped by hand, smoothed and repaired with a small amount of water. Drying time depends on the thickness of the piece; for this project, the manufacturer recommends leaving the bowls to dry at room temperature for about 48 hours. Once dry, the surface can be painted to give the piece the chosen colour and decorative finish.
