A creative clay modelling set for making pots and vases from white self-hardening clay. Create a bowl, candle holder and two vases without kiln firing.
The Clay Modelling Set Pots and Vases is a creative kit for making four decorative forms from white self-hardening clay: a bowl, a candle holder and two vases. It is a good choice for anyone who wants to try working with clay at home, without firing in a ceramic kiln, and create their own interior decorations.
The set lets you explore basic hand-building techniques, such as slab building and the coil technique. Rolled-out slabs of clay can be used to form soft, asymmetrical shapes for a bowl or vase, while coils can be used to build the walls of a vessel or the sculptural form of a candle holder. Gentle irregularities, visible joins and organic lines give the pieces a natural, handmade character.
The kit includes the materials needed to get started: white self-hardening clay, a roller, modelling tools, a metal candle holder element, empty bottles used as inserts for vases, brushes and three colours of acrylic paint. Once dry, the finished forms can be painted with pink, lilac and ultramarine acrylic paint to create calm, pastel decorations for a table, chest of drawers, windowsill or shelf.
White self-hardening clay is a light, natural modelling material that hardens as it dries in the air, without the need for firing in a kiln. It can be rolled, cut, shaped by hand and smoothed with a small amount of water. Drying time depends on the thickness of the piece and is usually around 1-2 days; if the clay still feels cool to the touch, it is still releasing moisture. For the best result, knead the white clay thoroughly before use and keep the modelled elements at an appropriate thickness. Once dry, the surface can be painted with acrylic paint.
