The Walking Apron started with a simple idea: a pottery apron should genuinely make studio work easier, while also looking good enough that you actually want to put it on. The idea took shape when the founder, who has a background in apparel design, spent time with potters during an artist residency in North Carolina. She watched them struggle with aprons that did not give them the comfort or coverage they needed at the wheel, so she decided to create something better.
That is how The Walking Apron came to be - a practical, comfortable pottery apron with a little charm, bringing a small bit of joy whenever you put on something you genuinely like. Its most distinctive feature is the split-leg design, which wraps each leg separately. This keeps the fabric from bunching between your knees or slipping to the sides while you sit at the wheel. Cross-back straps help distribute the weight evenly and avoid the neck strain of a traditional neck loop. Two large pockets hold pottery ribs, sponges and other small tools you like to keep close at hand.
The apron is made from durable cotton canvas weighing around 320 g/m², with reinforced stitching at the points that take the most strain, and it is machine washable. Walking Aprons are handcrafted in North Carolina. It is practical studio gear, but also one of those small things that can simply make a studio day nicer. A good apron, your favorite clay and a few quiet hours at the wheel sounds pretty good.
This Walking Apron comes in one size: Classic, designed as a one-size-fits-most fit. It works best for heights of around 157-175 cm and clothing sizes S-XL. An adjustable neck strap and long waist ties make it easy to fine-tune the fit to your body.
