The bristles are unbound at the base, allowing them to fan out naturally and hold a greater volume of material. This makes them ideal for longer strokes, covering larger surfaces, and achieving uniform color coverage without the need for frequent reloading.

Compared to bound brushes, unbound brushes hold more material and are the preferred choice for decorating large surface areas. Each brush is individually crafted by hand by a master artisan in Jingdezhen, China—the ceramic capital of the world. Due to the handmade crafting process, slight variations in size and shape are to be expected, making each brush a unique studio tool.
