In thinner areas, Acai Gloss reveals the warm rust-brown base characteristic of the Shino series. A thicker application brings out stronger blue and brown shades. Varying the glaze thickness over texture enhances the variegated effect while retaining a glossy finish.
Amaco Shino glazes are inspired by the humble earthiness of tea ceremony bowls. In oxidation firings, they produce a rich, high-iron surface reminiscent of reduction-fired glazes. They enhance both textured and smooth clay surfaces and are suitable for white and red clay bodies.
The Gloss and Matte versions can be blended to create intermediate levels of sheen. The glazes can also be layered with Amaco Potter's Choice glazes to produce more dynamic, complex surfaces.
