At low-fire temperatures, SP-286 Old Lace creates a light cream-colored base with a speckled effect in shades of orange, green, yellow and blue. One coat gives a semi-transparent effect with visible brush marks, while additional coats increase coverage and create a more even surface. At a higher firing temperature, the color remains unchanged, while the speckles gently soften.
Mayco Speckled Stroke & Coat glazes are thick, highly pigmented speckled glazes from the Stroke & Coat family. They combine an intense color base with fine ceramic frit particles, which create contrasting speckles and irregular spots after firing. A thin coat may leave visible brush marks, while 2-3 coats give a more even, opaque coverage. After firing, the glazes are glossy and do not require an additional clear glaze. At low-fire temperatures, the colors usually remain clean and vivid, while at higher firing temperatures the speckles may soften and form larger spots. Before repeat production, it is worth making a test tile on your chosen clay body and in your own kiln.
