Laguna Clay WC400 Moroccan Sand is a ceramic clay body designed for wheel throwing and handbuilding. Its defining feature is a natural sandy buff colour after firing, which gives functional pottery a warm, earthy character. It is well suited to making mugs, bowls, cups, plates and other everyday pieces.
Moroccan Sand has a slightly coarse texture that creates a natural-looking surface while still allowing precise shaping. It also works well for smaller and medium-sized handbuilt forms. Its sandy colour pairs with clear glazes that reveal the clay body, as well as more expressive decorative glazes.
When fired as recommended, the body becomes well vitrified, with water absorption of just 1%. This makes it an interesting option for functional ceramics, provided the finished ware and glaze are appropriate for their intended use. Total shrinkage is 12%, which should be taken into account when planning finished dimensions.
Bisque firing can be carried out at approximately 1000°C, followed by a glaze firing around 1180–1200°C. The finished colour also varies with kiln atmosphere: Moroccan Sand fires to a light sandy buff in oxidation and a darker brown in reduction.
